What is Hatha Yoga?

Any form of Yoga that utilizes poses can be considered a form of Hatha Yoga. However, Hatha Yoga is one of the older styles of Yoga asana (postures).  "Ha" means (sun) and "tha" (moon). This points to the opposites in our lives, the yin and yang, the hard and the soft, cold and warm. Hatha yoga (as all yoga) is about finding space and balance, mentally, physically and emotionally.

In our Hatha Yoga classes, we usually hold the poses a little longer. The holding of the poses allows more detailed instruction to be given and awareness of breathing, mind and attention to develop.

Today, Hatha Yoga is often used to describe yoga classes with no flow between poses, thus making it a less intensive yoga style.
